Crisis...what crisis?

Fifa's president, Sepp Blatter, has faced down a barrage of criticism over corruption within football's governing body and vowed that only "the Fifa family" could prevent him being re-elected unopposedon Wednesday .

After a day of high drama in which Qatar threatened legal action against Fifa's secretary general, Jérôme Valcke, for implying it had bought the right to host the 2022 World Cup, Blatter defiantly insisted there was nothing for Fifa to investigate.

"Crisis? What is a crisis?" asked Blatter, the day after a presidential election candidate and a Fifa vice-president became the third and fourth of Fifa's 24 most senior politicians to have been suspended from football over corruption allegations in the past six months.

Blatter's stubbornness has been reinforced by the knowledge that he will be elected unopposed for another term on Wednesday. The same congress of national federations will now be his judge, he claimed. "They will decide if I am a valid or a non-valid candidate, or if I am a valid or non-valid president."

The Three Mariners, Oare, Kent

The Three Mariners, Oare, Kent: Far more impressive than your average gastropub.

Kent is on the up, in culinary terms. Maybe there's an underlying economic reason for this, to do with activity spreading eastwards from the capital in advance of the high-speed rail link; or maybe it's just one of those coincidental things. Anyway, restaurants such as the Sportsman in Seasalter, Age & Sons in Ramsgate and the Goods Shed in Canterbury have turned the county into one of the liveliest-restauranted areas of the UK.

I`m going to Liverpool!!

Welcome to Liverpool

Liverpool. The very name conjures up images of a glorious maritime history, world-beating musical heritage, two of the Premiership’s biggest football teams and not one, but two majestically different Cathedrals.

This Northwest city and the surrounding City Region is certainly all those things, but it is also so much more.
It is now bulging with fabulous new shops, has buzzing new restaurants, hip hotels and trendy wine bars, as well as a world class cultural offering with more museums and galleries anywhere outside of London.

Not forgetting its inhabitants, of course, who are famously friendly and will welcome you with pride.

Be a dinner lady to get your child into the school you want....

Dozens of places at top state schools could soon be off-limits as ministers grant guaranteed entry to children of all staff – from teachers to dinner ladies.

Amendments to the schools admissions code, announced yesterday, remove the current ban on giving priority to the children of members of staff.

If a school wishes, it can expand the benefit to every member of staff – from head teachers to groundsmen, cooks, caretakers and cleaners.

Apples: Natural Weight-Loss Food...

Chances are, you've only tasted a few of the many varieties of apples because supermarkets offer a small selection that typically includes Gala, Cortland, Granny Smith, McIntosh, and the most popular -- Red Delicious. Regardless of the type, apples are a perfect addition to your weight-loss plan for a number of reasons.
Apples are low in calories and fat, low in sodium, and contain vitamins and minerals as well as fiber. These can all help you to lose weight in different ways. The fiber helps you feel full longer because it expands in your stomach so it takes less food to satisfy your hunger. Apples are a low-sodium food that can be a good addition to a healthy diet. Keeping your sodium low will help prevent excess water weight, or retention. And, the vitamins benefit you by increasing health and vitality. Of course, being active helps burn extra calories to speed up weight loss.
It turns out the simple apple is a jewel when it comes to healthy eating. There are even enzymes found in apples that might help your body digest food more efficiently. Learn more about this valuable fruit and how to get the most from it.
Health Benefits
Even though it's not bursting with nutrients like some of the other fruits, an apple a day may do more than keep the doctor away. For starters, apples are a good source of vitamin C, an antioxidant, and research has shown that antioxidants help prevent heart disease and the formation of some cancers. They have heart-healthy effects, too -- apples are loaded with pectin, which may help keep blood cholesterol levels in check. When it dissolves in water, soluble fiber creates a gummy, gel-like substance that binds bile acids and draws cholesterol out of the bloodstream. Soluble fiber's stickiness also slows the absorption of carbohydrates, keeping blood sugar levels on an even keel. And apples may contribute to a healthy smile and fresh breath by stimulating your gums and promoting saliva production.

Schools 'should teach how to save a life', says charity...

A heart charity is calling on the government to include the teaching of life-saving skills in the national curriculum.

In a survey carried out by the British Heart Foundation, 73% of schoolchildren wanted to learn how to resuscitate someone and give first aid.

More than 75% of teachers and parents also agreed it should be taught in schools.
The survey questioned 2,000 parents, 1,000 children and 500 teachers.

Portugal settles terms of €78bn bailout with EU and IMF....

Portugal's caretaker government said that it had negotiated a €78bn bailout deal with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, but was waiting for opposition parties to agree.

Acting prime minister José Sócrates said that, under the terms of the deal, Portugal must slash its budget deficit from 9.1% to 5.9% this year, and then reduce it to 3% by 2013.

"The government has today reached an agreement with the international institutions regarding the financial aid to our country," Sócrates said in a televised address.

Obama`s Census..

The death of Osama bin Laden was a "shared achievement" by the US, Pakistan and Afghanistan, a US official has said.

"All three countries had this commitment to an end to extremism," Marc Grossman, US special representative to Pakistan, told a news conference in Islamabad. "This effort is far from over."
He said the al Qaeda leader was an enemy of both the US and Pakistan, as thousands of Pakistani civilians and soldiers had died at the hands of terrorists.
