Done with willow charcoal, and a 8b Faber Castel pencil.
Willow charcoal is one of my favorite mediums. It spreads very quickly and evenly over the surface of the paper, helping you to draw large, pronounced work. Because of the broad tip/stick, your virtually forced to draw to a much larger scale than you would with a pencil.
You can produce some very eye catching work with willow charcoal, but one downside is that it`s quite messy to work with, and smudges very easily as you continue with your drawing. Bear that in mind, but practice with willow charcoal, as it has some unique qualities about it. It`s also very cheap, and a cheap hair spray acts very effectively as a fixative.
